Hi summoner,
I've been reading and watching various tutorials for rigging in Studio in order to rig my own 'gizmo'.  I found one about rigging a snake.  A cursory look tells me that this might be what you're looking for.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cyxhir31Ng     The author of the video is rigging using bones.   There are lots of tutorials on YouTube for rigging figures which help.

Ohh I know this very well , for a snake there is no further issues as there are not sections like the claws on this figure , the Video sure shows how to rig the X Axis of the snake with about 4-5 segments
but not this one would have about 20-30 just for the tail LOL also considering that Daz will need to
rig each Segment manually 3 times X Y Z . This Method could be done in Poser using the newer engine
Less painting then in DS and also Tris . Most creators still use this method , Rig in Poser then import in DS converting to Duf files . would not be a big deal! But not the Method I am using is about 5 Years advanced to DS , rigging the models in tris would be big step backwards and for most complex figures
you would never get these great bending results , they rather would be limited. Also considering the
rig time used tha would take for a figure that I can rig in a day about taking 2 weeks in DS .

Unless Ds does not unlock the Simple weights it will not be an option for me to start rigging Ds models.
you probably also noted that there are not many new standalone DS creatures released at Daz all this
is the main reason why not. and if then there pretty much limited compared to these with Simple weights.

For me to be honest if Poser would totally fail then DS will most probably not be the solution
I then rather would take a stepp onto Iclone as there it offers the compatibility with simple weights
for DS I'd rather do Mechanical assets the to even start with biological bendable creatures .
I would end up like most creators just making Extension for a Genesis model as there the rig is already given.

I just love this thing!   It's just too bad that it's not rigged for Studio and with Iray shaders.

I wish I could , the complexity of the rigging of such a figure would be almost impossible to Archive in DS. It would mean that most articulation would have to be set as morphs and not bones. but may be one day Daz will be forced to allow simple weight mapping and not only triax or capsules . I am still trying to figure out a way to get them into DS but it always fails ! Ds has the built in simple Weights due the fact that it is based on the carrara engine but it is somehow locked and I cant get through it , resulting that if I make a working one in this style I get like in Carrara visible bones to move the mesh and not selectable body-parts. It means that actually support would be built in DS but not meant to be used.
