i want this - but i use DS. any good reason why it would NOT work in DS with some surface tweaking?

It is a real Wm mappng and DS does not support it guess it has to be updated for this feature.
DS Still uses XYZ Capsule mapping then transformed to WM it is why it is called Triax
these bend much smother and you only need one WM for al three
Daz will translate this Mapping into non bending mechanic parts and Bending will break it.
t is the issue of DS that they try to have there reserved system it limits the possibilities
but this Fish is sure compatible with almost all High end Grafic Programs .
So actually not a Texturing Problem.

This rigging actually Allows you aditionaly to paint real time with a Brush in Poser the rigging while you bend it in any way of the axis on any Podypart
this aditional feature corrects any bending error. DS is still way behind concerning Mappin Rigging and adding multiple Texturing regions
on a figure so it is impossible to bring over such a quality into DS
